Quality classification of the campsites
The classification system is based on nationally applicable guidelines laid down by the BVCD and the German Tourism Association (DTV). In 1999, the scheme already in place for hotels, private rooms and holiday apartments was extended to include campsites, which can be awarded up to five stars.
Classification is voluntary and is intended to
make it easier for visitors to select a site.
Classification is valid for three years.
The campsites are classified according to the following criteria:
• Reception and service
e.g. size, accessibility, information material, foreign languages, advice, entry controls, service, catering, sales
• Sanitary facilities
e.g. structural condition, tiled walls and floors, washbasins, hot showers, toilet facilities, air conditioning, lighting, cleanliness, tumble dryers, washing machines, cooking facilities, sanitary facilities for wheelchair users, rubbish and sewage disposal
e.g. total available space per pitch, power hook-up, fresh water supply and waste water disposal for caravans and motor homes, layout of the campsite, organisation of the pitches, tent field for groups, main access roads, overall condition of the pitches and roads
